THE CRISIS OF EUROPEAN UNION: DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN POLICY DIMENSION – European Union Needs a Therapy

Abstract

During this current period when the Republic of Serbia
has made great efforts to fulfil all European Union’s criteria
(Copenhagen-related one and the other ones) and open and then
close 35 negotiating chapters as preconditions for the EU accession
(which tentatively could happen in 2025), the European Union has
gone through a turbulent period of development with challenges
of new internal divisions and groupings, with the institution crisis
and reduced impact in global geopolitical relations in a globalized
world. There is a question raised whether the European Union
will regroup into three groups of states, following the exit of
Great Britain in 2019 and the emergence of the need for finding
appropriate attitudes regarding the crisis issues of an unstoppable
wave of refugees, economic crisis in several states and the attempts
of the secession of Catalonia, or the survival of this large economic
and political integrative unit of half a billion people will be brought
into question. In this paper author writes about concrete problems of
the European Union and its most important institutions regarding its
numerous weak points and incomplete positioning of the European
Union in the constellation of international relations, its oportunism
in decision making and the placement of the European Union into
the service of defence of global geopolitical domination of the United
States of America and NATO as a means to implement such politics.
