INTERGENRATIONAL SOLIDARITY IN SERBIA - HOW MUCH WE CARE ABOUT THE ELDERY?

The research conducted within the project “Intergeneration exchange in Serbia“ was the first in Serbia to deal with this topic. This research represents a starting point for further researches on the topic of intergeneration solidarity. The space for new studies is wide for each individual dimension, especially for issues related to social interactions. Demographic trends lead to changes in the long-term care system and the growing importance of informal forms of help and support which are closely related to the intergenerational exchange. Therefor research of this type becomes even more valuable. Intergenerational solidarity is intensive in Serbia. In certain aspects, it is noticeable that there is not enough services within the communitiy to satisfy theneeds of the eldery. Concretely actions can go towards the development of community services in order to increase the range of services provided to the eldery. There is also a need to promote intergenerational solidarity through the adoption of public policies and campaigns at national level, which will enable all generations to contribute to society and the community.
