Сажетак

Овај рад доказује да су многа Смитова схватања, посебно она из „Теорије моралних осећања“ значајна за савремену етику и економију, данас потцењена. У економији, нпр., Смит није само разматрао повољност личног интереса у тржишнојразмени, већ и широк ди­апазон моралних мотива и институција потребних за одржавање економских активности, уопште. У етици, Смитов концепт ,,непристрасног посматрача“, који је у стању да на наша осећања гледа са дистанце, доприноси потпунијем разумевању захтева правде, нарочито путем схватања непристрасности као ширења вредносног хоризонта изван интереса локалних група. Смитов отворен, упоредни приступ усмерен на форме друштвене реализације правде у супротности је са оним што ја зовем ,,транценденталним инсти­туционализмом“, популарним у савременој политичкој филозофији и посебно повезаним са радом Џона Ролса.
